EISENHOWER, TEDDER, AND SHAEF HEADQUARTERS STAFF CELEBRATE THE SURRENDER OF GERMANY
EISENHOWER TEDDER AND SHAEF HEADQUARTERS STAFF CELEBRATE THE SURRENDER OF GERMANY
A wonderful signed item a whimsical menu from the May 10 1945 staff celebration dinner at SHAEF Headquarters at Reims France signed by SHAEF Commander in Chief DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER and by British Air Marshal ARTHUR W. TEDDER who had signed the German surrender on Eisenhower’s behalf in Berlin only a day earlier. The four-page 5 x 8 inch menu bears a color illustration of a smiling corpulent waiter lighting the cigarette of an attractive lady seated beside him with a bottle of champagne in an ice bucket before her. The hurriedly-typed menu within includes dishes all bearing names associated with the various Allies including: “Hors d’Oeuvres of the Allies” “Turbot de la Grand Bretagne” “Galantine de Chapon a la Russe” “Poulardes a l’Americaine” “Glace de la R.A.F.” etc. The cover of the menu is signed by the two most notable attendees: Dwight D. Eisenhower and Arthur W. Tedder. Some slight soiling otherwise in very good condition.
