State of preservation is good: no explicit flaws; slight deformation of cardboard edges, unpainted areas at the edges of the work.
N.I. Niss-Goldman (1892-1990)
Nina Iliinichna Niss-Goldman was born on the 19th of September, 1892 in Rostov-on-Don in a doctor’s family.
She studied in Kyiv Sculpture school since 14 years old.
In 1909, when she turned 16, she left for Paris and studied art with Meschaninov, Hanna Orlova, Sutin, Tsadkin, Modigliani, Arhipenko, Chaikov, and others.
In Paris Niss-Goldman often visited workshops, where worked Van Gogh, Modigliani, Tsadkin.
In 1920 Niss-Goldman became the professor of Higher Art and Technical Workshops (later renamed into Higher Art and Technical Institutes), where she taught since 1925.
In 1926 Niss-Goldman leaves for Italy on a business trip for two years.
During her whole life, Niss-Goldman participated in Moscow, state, and foreign exhibitions. Her works are exhibited in numerous museums all over Russia, including the collection of Russian avant-garde of the 1920-s in the State Russian Museum in Saint-Petersburg, Tretyakov gallery in Moscow, and others. The bust of Valery Bryusov (1924), a famous Russian poet, which was made shortly before his death, is still exhibited on expositions dedicated to the Russian arts of the beginning of the 20th century.
N.I. Niss-Goldman created multiple portraits of her contemporaries, approximately ten of her memorial sculptures and plates are set up in Moscow: in particular, to Lev Tolstoy, Rachmaninov, Botkin, Ostuzhev, Teleshov.
Her artworks are exhibited in private collections.
