ANTIQUE ORTHODOX ICON OF SAINT GEORGE WITH DRAGON
An antique Greek Orthodox icon. The icon depicts St. George slaying a dragon. Inscribed in Greek on the upper part. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. The borders are adorned with carved patterns. The legend of St. George and the Dragon has been prominent for the Eastern Christian religious and political spheres since the 12th century. Foros is a town in Crimea founded by the Greeks in the Middle Ages. Antique Orthodox Religious Items and Collectibles.
