An antique Russian Orthodox hand painted icon of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, levkas on a wood board. Titled in Church Slavonic, upper to the center. Circa: 19th century. The Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos is a holiday of the Orthodox and Catholic churches dedicated to the remembrance of the assumption of the Mother of God.
