PAIR OF CHINESE IMARI-STYLED CHARGERS
Qing Dynasty, Ca. 18th Century AD. A pair of Chinese Imari-styled chargers. The chargers are decorated with flowers and foliage in the Imari palette of red and blue with gold gilding, encircled by a thin blue ring on the edge. For similar examples, see Franks.376 and Franks.758.+ at the British Museum. Before becoming known as a style, Imari ware was initially a term used describe items that came from the Imari port. It became one of the foreign designs to be copied in Chinese porcelain production. Export porcelain was a large industry for China, and the designs of such items were usually altered to fit the local tastes of each target market. This lot displays a great example of such cultural exchange. While the style is made to imitate Imari ware with the typical color palette of blue, red and gold, the porcelain produced in China would have a whiter appearance than porcelain made in Japan. 类似的例子 见大英博物馆收藏的 Franks.376 和 Franks.758.+。 Size: 60mm x 470mm; Weight: 5.4kg
