The theme pendant S.P.Q.R. (Latin: Senatus Populusque Romanus, the Senate and People of Rome; for a discussion of other versions see below) are Latin initials written on the flags of the Roman legions, coins, gables of temples and were used by the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire to denote the partnership between the people Roman to the Senate.
In modern times these letters appear on the symbol of the city of Rome, as well as on the city hall buildings and the covers of the sewers in the city.
