Antique Deerfield Embroidered Medallion Quilt
Very Rare! Antique 19th century quilt with Antique Deerfield Embroidery measures 80 by 96 inches. The quilt is arranged in a medallion style with recycled linen pieces with hand embroidered Deerfield embroidery. The center panel measures 19x19", surrounded by 5.5" frame, surrounded by an additional Deerfield Embroidered frame: 14.5 vertically, and 19.5" along the top, 22 inches along the bottom, and outer off white frame about 14 inches wide. It is hand embroidered, hand pieced, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with the front brought to the back, by hand. I believe the embroidered part of the textiles are much earlier than the quilt, possibly mid to late 18th century. The condition is poor with overall toning, spots, and overall wear, deterioration, and splits in the off white fabric as well as portions of the embroidered ground fabric. Textiles like this are very rare and often only found in museums. This is definitely worth saving for the future and for study purposes. From a New York Collector. If you have any doubt, please ask questions! We will provide extra pictures, or can schedule an in person or video conference preview at your convenience.
