TIRPITZ OIL-SOAKED MANUAL PAGES (2)
An oil-soaked relic recovered from the German battleship Tirpitz. The typed pages, approx. 3 x 5.5 inches each, has entirely darkened from being soaked in oil, but are still somewhat legible. The Tirpitz was sunk by Royal Air Force bombers on 12 November 1944. The wreck of Tirpitz remained in place until after the war, when a joint German-Norwegian company began salvage operations. Work lasted from 1948 until 1957 and fragments from the ship were sold by a Norwegian company and pieces were picked up by collectors around the world.
