Gutman was an Israeli painter, illustrator, sculptor, and writer born in Bessarabia. He immigrated to Israel in 1905, studied at Bezalel, and became a prominent figure in the "Land of Israel School, " emphasizing local landscapes and people. Gutman illustrated numerous children's books, including works by Bialik and Tchernichovsky, and authored beloved titles like In the Land of Lobengulu, King of Zulu.
