AN EXCEPTIONAL INDIAN PIERCED DHAL SHIELD, 19 C.
An openwork brass shield of a circular convex form, with applied bosses and a crescent moon, the openwork decoration comprises deities on dense swaying foliate and floral ground. The rich floral decoration is inspired by Cutch's goldsmith's work. This type of shield had a ceremonial use.
Dimensions: D: 14 1/2 in., (37 cm.)
Condition: Very good.
