AN ENGLISH SHEFFIELD PLATE & CRYSTAL EPERGNE CENTERPIECE, 19TH CEN.
A Sheffield silver plate & crystal epergne style centerpiece comprised of a large cut-crystal bowl held by a cage-form body with floral engravings along the rim and legs shaped as Romanesque columns with beasts' paws as their bases. Emanating from the center of the stand are four silver arms, each of which holds a small crystal bowl at its end. This type of centerpiece was often used to hold varieties of nuts, fruits, and other sweets.
