Mountbatten thanks his correspondent for their letters which he found upon his return from an Easter holiday in the South of France and asks if he will thank Mr. Lim Koon Ling for 'the photographs of my visit to the Mountbatten English School', further writing 'I am glad that you have been able to take the action about commemorating the British Surrender in Singapore….You will be amused to hear that Lt. General Sir Reginald Denning, my Principal Administrative Officer in South East Asia, who sat immediately behind me at the Surrender looked at the three photographs which show the general view of the Surrender and started picking out the people he knew by name. He said “I gather they are making a waxwork tableau of this; I suppose they will be working from these photographs”. It was quite a time before I realised he thought the photographs were of the original Surrender and not of the waxworks. He was amazed at their excellence'. A few slight corner creases, otherwise VG
