CHARLES II: (1661-1700) King of Spain 1665-1700. Known as “The Bewitched”. Charles II was the last Habsburg ruler of the Spanish Empire, and is best remembered for his physical disabilities. He died at the early age of 34. A fine L.S., `Yo el Rey´, one page, 4to, Real Alcazar, Madrid, 15th January 1698, to Francisco de Cardona, knight of the Montesa order, in Spanish. The King refers to a religious celebration at the Royal Chapel of the Palace and to the costs incurred, over the existing budget and sends an order `To our beloved Captain and Lieutenant General Don Alonso Perez de Guzman…regarding the celebrations of the fourty hours in all the churches of this province and considering all the indulgences granted by me for the four first days of the year…celebration with music and sermons...´ The King further approves the increase of expense and approves  same increase of the budget for future years.
