COMMITTEE OF PUBLIC SAFETY: A very fine multiple signed letter, three pages, 4to, Paris, 7th January 1795, to Citizen Mottet, in French. The partially printed document, bearing to the heading an attractive vignette of the French Republic & Committee of Public Safety, is the appointment of Mottet as member of the Commission of Supplies recently founded by the National Convention, stating ` Vous avez été nommé membre de cette nouvelle Commission. Nous ne croyons pas necessaire de vous faire sentir l´importance des fonctions qui vous sont déléguées… tenez de frequentes assemblées pour aviser aux moyens de pouvoir aux besoins pressants des armées… Vous vous réunirez provisoirement dans une des maisons occupies par la Commission de Commerce…´ (Translation: “ You have been appointed member of this new Commission. We do not believe it necessary to make you feel the importance of the functions delegated to you... hold frequent assemblies to advise on the means to meet the pressing needs of the armies... You will meet provisionally in one of the houses occupied by the Commerce Commission…”) The letter is individually signed by seven members of the Committee of Public Safety, including CAMBACERES JEAN-JACQUES RÉGIS DE (1753-1824) 1st Duke of Cambacéres.
