PEABODY GEORGE: (1795-1869) American-British Financier, the 'father of modern philanthropy'. Vintage signed sepia carte-de-visite photograph, the albumen print by Mayall of London and Brighton and depicting Peabody seated in a three quarter length profile pose at a desk, with a quill in his hand. Signed ('George Peabody') in fountain pen ink to the lower photographer's mount and dated 1866 in his hand. Photographer's imprint to the lower mount and verso. Very slightly neatly trimmed to the upper edge of the photographer's mount and with some minor traces of former mounting to the verso, about VG £100-120
