Dozens of Black-and-White Photographs of the Templers of the Land of Israel at the Sidi-Bishr British Detention Camp - Alexandria, Egypt, 1914-1919 - World War I - German - Extremely Rare!
Many of the Templers of the Land of Israel volunteered during World War I to fight for Germany, their homeland. In 1918, about 850 of them were banished by the British, who had conquered Palestine, to Sidi-Bishr, the British detention camp near Alexandria.
Before us are 27 photographic postcards (14x8.5 cm.) of life at the camp: on the beach, playing Rugby, parties and rest.
One large photograph (30x20 cm.) is of the 1918 year, most likely of the German prisoners, among them some with Jewish names.
On 7 of the postcards there are German inscriptions.
Condition: Very Good. One postcard is slightly torn at the margins. The large photograph is also slightly torn with signs of gluing.
