Silver Rectangular Plaque - Gift to Ze'ev Letzki Bertoldi, a Great Jewish Leader, Minister for Jewish Affairs of the Ukraine Government - Riga, 1927
A silver plaque that might have decorated the binding of a book.
On the plaque, a nice artistic engraving depicting a majestic person sailing on a ship, on the background of the sea and its waves. On the horizon you can see a magnificent structure.
Under the illustration, the following words are engraved: "in memory of fifty years of literature and friendship with Mr. Ze'ev Letzki Bertoldi by his admirer A. Abrahams Schatz of Riga 1877-1927".
Ya'akov Ze'ev Bertoldi (1881-1940) was a journalist, one of the leaders of Socialist Zionism and the Territorial Movement. He is considered one of its philosophers. He served as a Minister of Jewish Affairs of the Independent Republic of Ukraine.
