Letter describing a Financial Dispute between a Jew of Vienna and an Arab of Safed - Vienna, 20.12.1928 - English - Handwritten Signature by the British Consulate in Vienna
Yudel Stern used to live in Safed and according to the letter owned a house in the city. Unfortunately, he could not return to the Land of Israel despite his strong desire since he could not get a passport to Palestine.
There was a financial dispute between him and an Arab named Ahmed Shema, most likely during the years 1918-1919, the end of World War I; it is possible that Stern was forced to leave the country because of the war and arrived in Vienna.
Before us are three letters of similar content. One letter is addressed to Ahmed Shema of Safed and the two others, to an unidentified addressee.
At the end of each of the letters (2 pp.) it is handwritten: "Signed in my presence at the British Consulate of Vienna on 10.1.1929". Handwritten signature of the consul, stamps of the consulate and British postage stamps.
Condition: Good.
