Passover Haggadah , Birkat Shir, with the commentary of Rabbi Aryeh Leib Tzinz. Warsaw, 1882. On title page and last leaf are Rabbi Menachem Zemba's inscriptions and signatures in curly childish handwriting: "Menachem Zemba from Warsaw"; "Menachem ben R' E. [Rabbi Elazar] grandson of Avraham Zemba".
Rabbi Menachem Zemba (1883-perished in the Holocaust 1943), was born in Warsaw to his father Rabbi Elazar, orphaned at age 9, and raised in the home of his grandfather Rabbi Avraham Zemba. From his childhood was known as a genius and exceptional Torah scholar. Studied Torah in Warsaw Batei Midrash, where he taught myriad students. The most renowned amongst Polish brilliant Torah scholars of his generation, one of the leaders of Mo'etzet Gedolei HaTorah in Poland and member of Va'ad HaRabbanim in Warsaw. All Lithuanian and Polish Torah leaders realized his outstanding scholarly greatness. Perished in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising on Passover 1943. He authored Totzot Chaim, Zera Avraham etc. most of his Torah novellae were lost during the Holocaust.
56 leaves, 20.5 cm. Dry paper, fair condition, stains and damages. The last leaf has tears and coarse gluing. Rubbed binding.
Bibliographically unknown edition. Another printing of the 1880 edition, however on the reverse side of the title page is a censor authorization from January 14, 1882. In Otzar HaHagadot no. 1577-1579 three editions appear which were printed in 1880 with censor authorizations from 1880, but this Haggadah with authorization from 1882 is not listed.
