Hans Severus Ziegler. Entartete Musik: Eine Abrechnung.
Poster.
23.5 x 33.5 inches (59.5 x 85 cm). Sold not subject to return.
Berlin, 1938 (Issued later):
Inspired by the Munich exhibition “Entartete Kunst” the theater director Hans Severus Ziegler organized an exhibition entitled”Entartere Musik” that focused on “degenerate” music - primarily jazz and of course anything composed by Jewish musicians. The poster displays “Negermusiker Johnny, ” a character from the popular opera “Jonny spielt auf” by Ernst Krenek. The musician’s buttonhole is replaced with a Star-of David. The artwork personifies what the Nazis defined as degenerate: A primitive “Jewish-Negro” polluting German high-culture.
