Important Wedgwood Auction
By Lion & Unicorn
Feb 19, 2023
200 Oakwood Lane Suite 200 Hollywood, FL 33020, United States

A lifelong passion for Wedgwood began for Betty Issod in the early 1950s, after her introduction to English ceramics by her dearest friend, Muriel Polikoff, a well-known dealer from Philadelphia. Muriel introduced Betty to the Buten Museum of Wedgwood in Merion, PA. It was at the Museum, where she first glimpsed a Fairyland Lustre vase by designer Daisy Makeig Jones that changed the course of Betty's life.

Presented in this auction is Betty's life-long collection of Important Wedgwood. Lion and Unicorn is honored to bring this collection to you today.

Wedgwood Flame Fairyland Lustre Imperial Bowl
'Fairy with Large Hat' decorated to exterior. 'Woodland Bridge V' decorated to interior.
Interior design, sense of depth and perspective and increasing elaboration of detail. A steeply arched bridge, bordered by distant woods, delicate and lacy, spans a stream which flows between banks of massive trees with connecting canopies. Fish and paisley center. Exterior design, elves, fairies, and brownies disport themselves on river banks, and in trees covered for the main part with unfamiliar foliage. Cobwebs are made a feature of this particular land-scape and minarets appear in the far distance. Footnotes: Referenced in Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre by Una des Fonaines on page 116-117 and . Wedgwood gilt Portland vase mark and MADE IN ENGLAND, Z5360 on the bottom. Artist: Daisy Makeig-Jones
Issued: c. 1920
