Two Portrait Miniatures of Children, 19th Century
Two Portrait Miniatures of Children, First Half 19th Century. Watercolor, unsigned. Comprising a portrait of a young child with short hair and blue eyes, wearing a white dress holding a toy rattle, in a rectangular gilt metal mounted and ebonized frame; and a portrait of a young child with short hair, brown eyes and burgundy dress in an oval silverplated locket case with hair to the reverse.
Dimensions: Sight dimensions 1 7/8 x 1 5/8in and 2 3/8 x 1 7/8in; Frame dimensions 2 1/8 x 1 7/8in and 4 1/2 x 4in.
This lot comes from an Upper West Side, New York City collection that will be featured in a short lecture by noted specialist of portrait miniatures, Elle Shushan. Condition:
Not examined out of the frames. Each portrait appears to be in generally good condition overall. The oval locket case with heavy toning and discoloration to the metalwork. The rectangular ebonized frame with wear, scuff, surface scratches and small losses overall.
