In the upper left corner round cartouche and here inscribed "Moraviae, Quae Olim Marcomannorum Sedes Corographia...", border coloured copper engraving, end of 16th century, wide-margined copy, folding line in the centre, slightly browned and somewhat stained, framed behind glass, image dimensions approx. 35.5 x 47.5 cm. Artist's info: Flemish geographer and cartographer (1527 Antwerp to 1598 Antwerp), descended from an Örtel (Oertel) family who emigrated from Augsburg to the Netherlands, is considered the founder of modern cartography, after studying mathematics, Greek and Latin in Antwerp worked as a map and book dealer, trained as a cartographer, published the first edition of his "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum" in 1570, later published in 42 editions and 7 languages, representing the first collection of maps in book form, Source: Thieme-Becker, Wikipedia and Internet.
