Fritz Behn, Zyklus "Afrikanische Visionen"
14 Blatt und handkoloriertes Titelblatt, Lithographien, um 1910-20, 14 Blatt in Blei signiert, unterschiedliche Erhaltung, Blattmaße je ca. 57,5 x 80 cm. Künstlerinfo: dt. Bildhauer (1878 Klein Grabow bis 1970 München), 1898-1900 Studium an der Akademie der bildenden Künste München als Schüler von Adolf von Hildebrand und Wilhelm von Rümann, als Förderer Behns fungierte Prinzregent Luitpold, 1907-09 Reisen nach Afrika und Südamerika, um dort anatomische Zeichenstudien an Großwild vorzunehmen und um Gipsabdrücke von erlegtem Wild zu fertigen, 1905, 1907 und 1909 Teilnahme an der Biennale in Venedig, ab 1910 Mitglied der Münchner Sezession, 1910 Verleihung des Titels „Königlich bayerischer Professor“, war tätig an den Hochschulen München und Stuttgart sowie an der Kunstakademie Weimar, 1911-12 Parisaufenthalt und Besuch bei Auguste Rodin, Reise nach Italien und London, gewann 1913 die Ausschreibung für die Errichtung des deutschen Kolonialkriegerdenkmals - das Denkmal kam jedoch nicht zur Ausführung, 1913 gemeinsam mit Franz Marc Ausstellung in der Galerie Tannhäuser in München, Veröffentlichung des Essay „Für Fritz Behn“ von Thomas Mann, meldete sich 1914 als Kriegsfreiwilliger, ab 1921 Kontakt zu Adolf Hitler, lebte 1923-25 in Buenos Aires/Argentinien, 1927 zum Präsidenten der Münchner Künstlergenossenschaft gewählt, ab 1927 Mitarbeiter im Feuilleton des Völkischen Beobachters, 1928 Initiator des nationalsozialistischen Kampfbundes für deutsche Kultur, 1931-32 erneute Reise nach Afrika, 1940 Ernennungen zum Direktor der Akademie der bildenden Künste in Wien, diese Stellung hatte er bis zum Ende des Nationalsozialismus inne, 1943 Verleihung der Goethe-Medaille für Kunst und Wissenschaft durch Adolf Hitler, Aufnahme in die Gottbegnadeten-Liste, Behn stellte sich nach dem Ende der NS-Diktatur als Gegner des Regimes dar, erhält eine Pension von der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, 1968 Auszeichnung mit der Senatsplakette der Stadt Lübeck, Quelle: Thieme-Becker und Wikipedia.
