Vasily Dmitrievich Polenov (1844-1927) - academician of historical painting, genre painter, landscape painter. He was born into a noble family. He studied at the Physics and Mathematics and Law faculties of St. Petersburg University and simultaneously studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1863-71). Successes of V.
Polenova was awarded gold and silver medals more than once during her studies. As a pensioner, he worked abroad for six years (Munich, Venice, Florence, Rome, etc.).
He participated in the Serbian-Montenegrin and Russian-Turkish wars as a volunteer and as an artist at the headquarters of the heir to Tsarevich Alexander Alexandrovich. He has repeatedly traveled to Europe and the Middle East for artistic purposes. He taught at MUZHB and 3 (1882-95). In 1892 he received the title of professor. Participant of many world and Russian exhibitions. V. Polenov's works are highly appreciated by collectors. His works are in the collection of most Russian museums.
