African mask from the Fang, Gabon
African Kifwebe mask from the Songye, Congo. This type of mask serves the Kifwebe secret society of the Songye and embodies a protective spirit. Hand-carved from a single piece of wood, with incised ornaments and coloured painting. Signs of wear, drying cracks.
