Rabbi Meir Vaknin was the Sephardic rabbi and Dayan of the Tiberias court.
נולד בעיר טבריה בז' אדר ה'תרמ"ה לרב דוד ועקנין שהיה אב בית הדין ורב הקהילה הספרדית בעיר. על פי המסורת, משפחתו מיוחסת עד לפילוסוף הרב רבי יוסף אבן עקנין, מרבני פאס. בשנת ה'תרע"א בהיותו בן 26, נשלח על ידי חכמי טבריה כשד"ר לקהילות היהודים באירופה, לאסוף כסף עבור כולל רבי מאיר בעל הנס. יצא בשליחות המוסדות לברוקלין, ניו יורק. עקב מלחמת העולם הראשונה נאלץ להישאר שם במשך שש שנים, בניתוק ממשפחתו, ובהיותו שם כיהן כרב ראשי של קהילת הספרדים ארם-צובא, המוכרת כיום בשמה "מגן דוד".
