He received his BFA from Bethany College, Linsborg, KS in 1971 and a MFA from Indiana University in 1973. At Indiana, he collaborated with another graduate student creating performance art. That’s when he first caught the playwriting bug. Klocke moved to New York City where he worked at an Off-Off-Broadway theatr. In New York, he studied Advanced Playwriting at Playwright's Horizon.
