Marcella Oakes (1921-2007) watercolor, untitled stream through woods, signed in lower right, size: 12.5 x 16.5 inches. From the collections of Dennis and Martha Oakes. Marcella Oakes, 85, Salina, Kansas, died Thursday, June 14, 2007. Mrs. Oakes was born Marcella Dowling on Nov. 10, 1921. Marcella attended the Art Institute of Chicago, where she lived for 30 years. She returned to Salina and was a retired bookkeeper for Ballou Construction and a freelance artist with over 900 works sold throughout the United States.
