Felten, Pete - limestone sculpture, good condition,
This is a sculpture in limestone of a buffalo, 1991, that measures 12x17.5x6, wt. 51 lbs, and is signed "Felten" on the back of the base. Born 1933 and while visiting in the Navy from 1952-56, Felten visited art museums on the east and west coasts and in Hawaii. He attended an art league school n New York for a short time then began sculpting and taking classes at Fort Hays State Univ. His studio is the Stone Gallery in Hays. Two of his best-known works are "Monarch of the Plains, " a larger-than-life-sized replica of a buffalo bull carved from a 24-ton block of limestone and located outside of Hays, and "Pioneer Family Statue" installed in Oberlin in 1971.
