Peterson, Carl ( ) untitled winter landscape, 1993 watercolor, signed in lower right, good condition, image size: 5.25 x 7.25 inches. Carl Peterson (1919-2009) graduated from Lindsborg High School and studied art at Bethany College under the teaching of Swedish-American artist Birger Sandzen. He graduated in 1942 with a BFA. He received a MFA from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He also spent a summer studying at Columbia University, NY. He taught art in public schools in Osborne, KS; Hays, KS and Salina, KS. He taught art classes at Bethany College, Lindsborg, KS. In 1963 he became the co-director of the Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery. Carl's primary media was watercolor painting, although an occasional oil and casein painting will appear. While at Colorado University he studied lithography. A few of those examples still survive. Carl was a fairly prolific painter, especially after his retirement from the gallery in 1981.
