Jacob Steinhardt Crucifixion Scene Oil on Canvas
Jacob Steinhardt (Israeli, 1887-1968). Oil on canvas painting depicting a Surrealist scene of Christ's crucifixion. Signed along the lower right. A partial label from Galerias Witcomb, Buenos Aires is attached to the verso.
Height: 44 in x width: 34 in x depth: 1 in.
Condition: The colors are bold and deep. The surface is not fully stable and there are areas of paint loss. There are losses to the paint and canvas throughout, in particular along the extreme edges of the canvas and the corners. There are several losses along the bottom edge, in particular one along the right quadrant and one in the left quadrant. There is craquelure throughout. The stretcher bars are visible from the front. Along the verso there is an area along the lower edge that has been patched. There is wear to the extreme edges of the canvas.
