Eduard Wiiralt "Cabaret" Signed Etching 1931
Eduard Wiiralt (Estonian, 1898-1954). Copperplate etching on paper titled "Kabaree (Cabaret)" depicting an intense surrealist view of a crowded club, 1931. Ink signed along the lower right; inscribed "Cabaret - eau forte 1931" along the lower left. Inscribed in pencil along the verso "19 III 1948 Soome Paber."

Reference: Kangilaski 59.

Height: 23 in x width: 26 in.
Condition: The sheet is toned, more so along the perimeter of the image, likely due to a previous framing. There is a crease in the lower left corner and a small loss to the extreme edge of this corner. There is a loss to the upper right corner and a crease. There is a clear piece of tape along the center edge of the etching which covers a tear. There is a smaller tear just to the right of this piece of tape. There is a tear along the upper center edge which extends from the edge of the sheet down to the edge of the image. Signs of moisture exposure to the upper left edge and the lower edge. Undulation to the sheet throughout. Along the verso there are a few areas of skimming corresponding to old areas of tape. One piece of old framer's tape along the lower left corner. Three pieces of clear tape corresponding to tears. Areas of moisture exposure running horizontally through the center of the work and along the lower edge. The work is not framed.
