German Adolf Stocker anti-Semitic Judaica political jeton, 1880-1881 elections
Germany: Adolf Stocker anti-Semitic bronze political jeton, Reichstag elections 1880-1881; not maker-marked; 24mm, 4.55g. Obverse: German legend "Hoch Stöcker, Forster, Henrici. Vivant Sequentes"; reverse: Berlin coat of arms & exclamation "Hep! Hep". Stocker was the Kaiser's court chaplain who promoted ideology of "cultural-Protestantism", viewing capitalism & industrialization as causing social inequality and blamed Jewish capitalists; founded the "Christian Social Party" in 1878 and sided with other prominent anti-Semites - Carl Ernst Henrici & Bernhard Forster. Obverse legend "Hep! Hep!" refers to Latin cry "Hierosolyma est perdita" ("Jerusalem is lost") - rallying cry of the Crusaders. In UNC with luster; Kirschner #36 & Fieweger-90.
