MODEL 1855 BAYONET IN SURROUNDING TREE LIMB, GETTYSBURG
A superb relic very rarely encountered today, a full-length Model 1855 socket bayonet that was literally picked-up by a growing tree and eventually encased within one of the tree's limbs. The well-weathered bayonet measures 21 in. overall, and appears by its lesser-quality construction to be Confederate issue, though we cannot warrant that as fact. The limb itself, 16 in. tall and 14 in. wide, was clearly cut many decades ago. It originates from a local Gettysburg dealer who himself sourced it locally, though its history beyond a few decades ago is unknown. One of the best battlefield relics we've encountered.
