NUREMBERG CALL TO ARMS POSTER
Printed poster, 12 in. x 18.5 in., Nuremberg, April 14, 1945, a notice of a call to arms to defend the city of Nuremberg from the approaching Allied forces, in part: 'All conscripts born in 1884 or younger have to defend their threatened homeland...Those called up must bring the following when they are called: coat, blanket, provisions for a march of three days, and if available military clothing and equipment'. A facsimile signature at the conclusion is KARL HOLZ (1895-1945) Gauleiter of Franconia, a friend of Julius Streicher and editor of Der Sturmer, killed in the battle for Nuremberg. Holz was the Reich Defense Commissioner at the time. Very fine condition. The city of Nuremberg would be surrendered to the Allies only four days later, on April 18, 1945. From a large grouping of 'liberated' Nuremberg relics consigned to us from the estate of Captain Augustus B. Hill, the Chief of Real Estate and Land Resources of the Bavarian sector of the American military government. Nuremberg was the second-largest city within his jurisdiction. Sold with a scanned copy of a letter of provenance from our consigner, who describes how Hill's property ended up in his collection.
