PRESENTATION COPY OF MEIN KAMPF, PUBLISHED THE YEAR ITS COPYRIGHT ENDED
A limited-edition, two-issue set of presentation copies of 'Mein Kampf', published by the 'Bayerische Staatsbibliothek' ('Bavarian State Library') in 2015 - the last year in which the contentious publication remained copyrighted by the Bavarian state before entering the public domain. The volumes, each measuring approx. 8.5 x 11 in., bear 405 silver-tinted pages housed between black rubber covers with an impressed black swastika at the center of the front cover. The title page of each bears the logo of the Bavarian state library and the date of issue '2015'. The endpages of each bear a dramatic red swastika overlapped by black rubber, bearing a gilt limitation number '6' at the bottom. The pair of books are housed in an original aluminum case, totally sized 18.25 in. long x 11.75 in. wide x 2 in., which bears a sticker atop the lid with limitation number '6 von 10'. Very good to fine. Presumed rare, as our research could find no similar examples. The German state of Bavaria maintained the copyright for 70 years after Hitler's death, refusing to allow any copying or printing of the book. Months after this limited-edition copy was published, publishers were controversially given free access to the original text.
