Two Pairs of Palestinian "Habbiyat" Bracelets
Four (i.e., two pairs) "habbiyat" (or "aswareh habbiyat") bracelets. Palestine, Nablus Region, [early 20th century].
Silver, cast; silver thread and granulation.
Two pairs of bracelets composed of silver spherules arranged in rows and connected to one another by rings and pins. Clasp consists of two rectangular links decorated with tiny dome-shaped silver-thread ornaments. On one of the pairs of bracelets, small silver coins that chime like bells are attached to the dome-shaped ornaments. On the other pair, a single silver coin is attached to the pin of the clasp. Such bracelets were typically worn as pairs, one on each wrist.
Averaging 18X5 cm (when spread out).
