Terracotta juglet with lug handle.
reddish clay, trefoil rim and a pointed base. Cf: Amiran, R. Ancient Pottery of the Holy Land, Jerusalem 1969, p. 149, no. 15 for similar. 16 x 7 cm. Rim chipped.
Late Bronze Age ca. 1550-1200 B.C.E. is characterized by prolific trade in the Eastern Mediterranean. That all comes to an abrupt stop with the migrations of the Sea Peoples from the Aegean to the eastern Mediterranean littoral. The parallel story in the Biblical narrative is the exodus from Egypt.
Ex-Eugene and Monica Hollander collection, acquired from the late General Moshe Dayan who signed the vessel, “Gaza B.C. 1500, M.Dayan”.
