Biography
Abel Pann (Fefferman) Painter. Born in Latvia in 1883. Studies: 1898 Art School, Odessa; with Yehuda Pan, teacher of Chagall, Paris; 1903 Grande Chaumiere, Paris. Teaching: 1913 Bezalel, Jerusalem; 1920-24 Bezalel. 1895 Moved to Vilna and worked as lithographer. 1903 Went to Paris, exhibited in the Salons and became known as caricaturist. 1912 Met Boris Shatz who invited him to teach at Bezalel. 1914 Returned to Paris to settle his affairs, but prevented because of outbreak of war. 1916 Painted series 'The Road of Tears', drawings and lithographs of Russian pogroms. 1917 Went to U.S.A. where known as a Jewish artist. 1920 Returned to Israel. 1921 Imported a printing machine from Vienna and began printing illustrations of the Bible which he published in 1924. Died in Jerusalem in 1963.
