Wall Candle Holder - Jerusalem, Early 20th Century
Wall candle holder. [Jerusalem, early 20th century].
Copper, repouseé.
Round candle holder with repouseé figures and verses. In the center – Eliezer and Rebecca are depicted in a naïve style - Rebecca is holding a jug and Eliezer is drinking from it. Next to them are a well and a camel. On the right side appears another woman with a jug on her shoulder. Depicted in the center of the dense composition is a palm tree with inscription: "Jerusalem…" and "Eliezer took Rebecca". The central images are surrounded by two round frames; in the first frame are images of birds and other fowl, and in the outer frame – numerous animals: an elephant, sheep, hen, cow, lion, deer, donkey and more. Removable candle holder. Hook for hanging.
Diameter: 28.5 cm. Good condition. Bending, damages to margins, slight corrosion, paint remnants on the reverse.
