Divrei Emet, Chicago, 5664 [1904]. Polemic against the Ridbaz
Divrei Emet, First section. Polemic relating to shechitah between the Ridbaz and Rabbi Shimon Elboim. Chicago, 5664 [1904]. 44 leaves, 25 cm. Polemic composition against Rabbi Yaacov David Wilovsky – the Ridbaz. The Ridbaz served as the Rabbi in several important communities including Slutsk. He moved to the USA, and his activities included strengthening shechitah. He encountered the opposition of Rabbi Zvi Shimon Elboim, as the Ridbaz wrote in the forward to his book Nimukei Ridbaz. In the composition before us, he responds to the attacks of Rabbi Elboim where he copies the words of the Ridbaz. Herein unfolds the disagreement between the two in their activities to set up Torah and kashrut in Chicago. Due to the polemic, the Ridbaz left Chicago and immigrated to Eretz Yisrael. There he served as Rabbi of Safed and set up a yeshivah. In pages 49-50 there is photograph of the hand written agreement between the Ridbaz and the shochets (slaughterers). Goldman 1129. Not bound. Light damage to the title page. Wide margins. In good – very good condition.
