Remnants from Ledgers of Communities in Ashkenaz, Various Letters and Documents. 18th Century

Group of documents, primarily from the 18th century, including remnants of leaves from ledgers of historic communities, letters and documents, that give us a glimpse of daily life of Jews in Europe.

Highlights: Regulations about taxes that were received by the Vaad of Grieshaber in 1722 with signatures from the heads of the Vaad.

Leaf of community regulations with respect to fencing in the community cemetery, from 1761; leaf of regulations about 'laws and customs of aliyahs to read in the Torah for Leviim and Yisraelim, ' 1766.

Form accepting arbitration upon himself for a man from Altona who had a dispute with the leaders of the community 'Everything as said by the gaon, the Av Beit Din Shaul of Amsterdam, and the Av Beit Din of the three communities [the gaon Rabbi David Berlin], thus it will be.'

Protocol from a meeting of the heads and leaders from 1799 without the name of the community; a document from the community of Pfersee, a compromise document from 1828 [apparently from Altona].

12 documents in various sizes and and conditions.
