Teapot of "powdered tea enamel", Yongzheng (1723 - 1735)

The stamp on the base indicates 雍正年製 "Made in the Yongzheng year". The kettle is on. Made of enameled porcelain with the "Cháyè mò yòu" technique, which means "powdered tea enamel", due to its texture and color. In the Yongzheng and Qianlong days, this glaze was favored by the palace. The shape is typical of Chinese teapots with a low, rounded body, a domed button lid, an elegant appearance, and a smooth, smooth surface covered entirely by the glaze.

The greenish color and stippling of tea leaves powder is intense and is achieved by using iron ore at high temperature to obtain the result of this color for the glaze. In the Yongzheng period the imperial kilns of Jingdezhen were famous for practicing this technique. The rims have a thinner glaze and take on a brownish hue.
