Carved jade figurine ‘Monkeys and Peaches’, Qing dynasty
White jade carved in a single piece with slight reddish-golden flecks. It depicts a dynamic and joyful scene, where two small monkeys climb over a large peach tree, from which emerges a long, curling peach branch covered with smaller fruit.
In Chinese culture, the fruit of the peach tree is associated with longevity and good fortune, while the monkey is one of the twelve animals of the zodiac. Both elements are commonly depicted on all kinds of objects such as jades, ceramics or paintings. With a rope and decorative stone added at a later date.
Size: 7 x 5.5 x 8 cm
Weight: 305 g
