Shoushan ‘Foo Lion’ stone seal, Qing dynasty
A small carved stone seal. It has a quadrangular base and an elongated body crowned at the top by the image of a foo lion reclining on its four legs under its body with its tail tucked up. The head is tilted to one side with an intimidating expression of wide-open eyes and large fangs. On the front face, beneath the beast, is an incised poem. On the base is a four-character seal in relief.
