Hercules Fighting King Geryon, 16th century Flemish school
Oil on table. Measurements: 127 x 97 cm, framed measurements: 169 x 139 cm. The identification of the theme of this work is possible thanks to its presence in it of a three-headed human monster that is none other than King Gerión. In the work Hercules appears from behind attacking Gerión and accompanied by two other characters who also attack the monster. In the background another episode of the labors of Hercules appears, which is his fight against the Erymanthian boar and further in the background the hero appears again carrying the animal on his back towards the city of Tiryns that is described in the distance. The technique of this painting shows a firm and precise drawing, typical of the Flemish artists of the late 16th century, noting that the anonymous painter who made it used an engraving by Frans Floris.
