Nature and people was a weekly illustrated magazine published in Russia from November 1889 to April 1918 by P. p. Soykin's publishing house in St. Petersburg. From 1906 it was subtitled "Illustrated journal of science, art and literature". In total, during the 28 years of the magazine's life, 1,470 issues were printed[3]. The magazine "Nature and people" from the very beginning became popular among different segments of the population, despite the fact that it published articles at a high scientific level (the popularity of the new magazine is evidenced by the fact that the first issues of the magazine sold out so quickly that it had to print the second and third editions).
The journal published works by Ya. I. Perelman (in 1914 he became Executive Secretary of the editorial Board of this publication, with enviable frequency printed his materials in it), articles by members of the Imperial Russian geographical society, K. E. Tsiolkovsky (at that time, many considered a scientist with utopian ideas). The magazine also had puzzles and challenges. The magazine introduced readers to the latest technical innovations from around the world, it published essays by historians and travelers, readers learned about the life of distant countries and unknown peoples. The articles dealt with almost all areas of human knowledge. The magazine published biographical essays about scientists, entertaining articles about geography and Ethnography, popular essays on chemistry, physics and botany, science fiction novels and historical novels. News about discoveries, about unexplored species of animals, about engineering innovations were under the headings "From all over the world" and "Curious inventions".
Soikin Pyotr Petrovich during his life published many different publications: 25 collected works of major writers, 33 book series, 32 magazines. He paid special attention to publications aimed at educating people (and not just entertainment literature). He was able to publish hundreds of books and magazines on science, technology, history, geography.
The senior of the Gruzdev brothers, doctor of medicine Sergey Sergeyevich Gruzdev, was officially approved as the responsible editor of the new journal, but all editorial work lay on his younger brothers — medical student Victorina Sergeevich and soil scientist Faust Sergeyevich.
In 1914, the responsible Secretary of the editorial Board of the journal became known popularizer of science Yakov Isidorovich Perelman, often printed in your materials (for years of work in the editorial pages of the journal appeared more than five hundred articles, essays and notes for his authorship, most of which was devoted to various questions of astronomy, physics, mathematics and technics).
