Hechalutz: There was a worldwide Zionist movement of young Jews who organized for the purpose of immigrating to Palestine. It began with spontaneous organizing in the 1880s and lasted until the Holocaust. Members of Hehalutz, who belonged to various Zionist youth movements, were at the forefront of immigration and settlement in Palestine and of the Jewish defense in the Diaspora, including in the ghettos where the Jews were concentrated during World War II.
