Poster. 'Strict Admonition'. Jerusalem, 1930's
Poster. 'Azhara Chamura' for ultra-orthodox Jews in Palestine not to participate in the 'Va'ad Ha'Leumi' [Jewish National Council]. Signed by hundreds of Rabbis in Palestine and the Diaspora, Ashkenazic and Sephardic. Jerusalem, Zukerman press. 1930's.
[1] leaf. 63x47 cm.
The Va'ad HaLeumi was the executive arm of the Zionist Asifat HaNevcharim [National Assembly] that wanted to represent all factions of Jews in Eretz Yisrael. The Rabbis of the ultra-Orthodox community that opposed Zionism excommunicated the Va'ad and prohibited participation in its affairs. The poster is signed by about 170 rabbis, Ashkenazic and Sephardic, including prominent rabbis from Palestine and the Diaspora. Small tears, without loss of text. Fold marks. Ink stains. Moderate condition.
